When Emily returns, she tells Sonny that he has to get help. He tells her that he is fine, and that this is just something from his past. She says it could be bi-polar disorder, it?s a chance for him to get better, and that he has to grab onto it. He says if he?s bi-polar, then he could have passed it on to his kids, he could never live with that. She tells him that?s exactly why he needs to get help. He has to set an example for his kids; he needs to heal so they could share their life together. He finally agrees, but he says he?s not sure if he can do it. She says she is. He?s afraid that therapy and medication will change him, she tells him that if after the treatment, he decides he doesn?t love her anymore, she will let him go.
After a few sessions, Sonny comes home upset. He wants to quiet therapy. He didn?t appreciate Lainey questioning him about his mother and trying to blame her for what happened to him. Emily won?t let him quit, they fight about it, and she walks out.
When she gets back, she apologizes. He says it?s not her fault. He says he can?t see it in her eyes that she?s worried about him all the time. She says it comes with a territory, she loves him. He tells her he can?t do it anymore, she asks if he?s breaking up with her, he tells her he can?t do this to her anymore. She says it?s their decision to make, he doesn't have to just turn their lives upside down. He says the little therapy that he has done so far made him see things differently; she asks how differently and if he doesn't love her anymore. He says he can?t stop loving her; but he can?t continue to do this to her anymore. He has to let her go. She says she?s not going to be like the other women in his life, she won?t beg. He tells her to go out there, be someone?s best friend, and a great doctor. Make him sorry that he ever asked her to leave. They share an emotional hug, and Emily leaves Grey Stone.
1 year later SEm share a couple of glances and its quite clear that their is still that strong connection and love between them. Tragedy strikes and Emily is strangled. Sonny finds out and is completely devastated that Emily is gone, and fights his hardest not to breakdown when he talks to her what he feels will be his last time. But one thing is very clear Sonny's love for Emily will never die and vice versa!!!
Their story for now is over, but that doesn't mean they could never reunite these two. Their forever connected, and their love will prevail..Because SEm's love was UNEXPECTED AN UNFORGETTABLE!!!
